Circle September 5 in your calendar! House of Anansi Press, Granta Books, and Ecco, a division of Harper Collins, are thrilled to announce the simultaneous publication in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States in September 2015 of Undermajordomo Minor, the electrifying new novel by award-winning and internationally bestselling Canadian author Patrick deWitt.

A love story, an adventure story, a fable without a moral, and an ink-black comedy of manners, Undermajordomo Minor tells the story of a young man named Lucien (Lucy) Minor, who accepts employment at the foreboding Castle Von Aux. While tending to his new post as Undermajordomo, he soon discovers the place harbours many dark secrets, not least of which is the whereabouts of the castle’s master, Baron Von Aux. In the local village Lucy encounters thieves, madmen, aristocrats, and most significantly Klara, a delicate beauty whose love he must compete for with the exceptionally handsome partisan solider, Adolphus. Thus begins an exuberant tale of polite theft, bitter heartbreak, domestic misery, and cold-blooded murder.

Patrick deWitt is the author of two previous internationally acclaimed novels. His first book, Ablutions (2009), garnered rave reviews and was named a New York Times Editors’ Choice. “Bold, original, and powerfully compelling” (Globe and Mail) The Sisters Brothers, his second novel, exploded onto the literary scene, winning the Governor General’s Literary Award for Fiction, the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and the Stephen Leacock Medal and was shortlisted for the 2011 Man Booker Prize and the Scotiabank Giller Prize. Published in 29 countries, The Sisters Brothers established deWitt as one of the most inventive and talented authors writing today.
