Are you tech-savvy, detail-oriented, and curious about how books are published and discovered? House of Anansi Press and Groundwood Books is looking for a Data Management Intern to join our Integrated Solutions and Data Management department for a one-year contract.
This is a great opportunity for recent grads or emerging professionals looking to gain hands-on experience in technology, data, and publishing workflows—no prior experience in publishing required.

Role Summary
You'll work alongside a supportive team and gain exposure to a variety of systems and tools used in publishing, including Shopify, Booksonix, and Acumen. You'll learn how publishing data flows through platforms and how digital information shapes the discoverability of books.
Responsibilities
• Update website content and curate digital collections
• Troubleshoot metadata issues with vendors and aggregators (e.g., BookNet Canada)
• Maintain title database: changes to prices, formats, publication dates
• Manage digital assets: cover images and interior files
• Write alt text to aid in accessibility
• Optimize metadata keywords for discoverability
Skills and Experience
Required:
• Tech-comfortable and eager to learn new systems
• Organized, reliable, and attentive to detail
• A clear communicator
Preferred:
• Experience with content management systems (e.g., Shopify or WordPress) or bibliographic metadata management systems (e.g., Booksonix or ONIXEdit)
Co-op
We regret that we are not able to offer any high-school co-op placements this year.
Class visits
Occasionally we are asked by teachers if we can host short informational visits for their classes who want to learn more about the business of writing, publishing and bookselling. We are open to these requests but ask for plenty of advance notice and advise that we may not always be able to accommodate every request.
