Slim and None: My Wild Ride from the WHA to the NHL and All the Way to Hollywood
Check out the new podcast Slim and None based on our book Slim and None: My Wild Ride from the WHA to the NHL and All the Way to Hollywood by Howard Baldwin. If you're a hockey fan, you'll want to tune into this one!
By Howard Baldwin
The original idea for Slim and None stemmed from a promise I made to my mother, Rose Baldwin, to properly document some of the great, fun stories she would ask me to tell her about my life in hockey and in Hollywood. I promised my mother I would write them into a book — as a good son, I made sure to keep that promise. Indeed, thanks to the support of House of Anansi Press and the wonderful executives there, to Steve Milton, and to my wife, Karen Baldwin, the Slim and None book was written and published. The photos featured in the book are personal photos, and many are important to the history of the WHA and the NHL in general.
My “other life,” in addition to my life in sports, is in the film and television business. With the success of Ted Lasso and other shows, we explored doing a series on the birth of the Whalers, the WHA, and our experience owning the Red Army Team in Moscow in the 90’s. We initiated this effort with the support of The Hockey News, Graeme Rouston and his team, and a podcast company called BLEAV. More recently, we have joined forces with The National Hockey League who are running the podcast on their website.
Simultaneously, we are in series development on two shows for television. One show focuses on the birth of the Whalers; the other is all about our wild adventure in Moscow as 50% owners of the CCCP team, re-branded The Russian Penguins.
House of Anansi Press was the launching pad for all of this. We will be forever grateful to them. Hopefully, you can tune in and see a few fun shows as a result.
